Founded in 1981, Charles Shamukiga along with other friends aimed to provide an education that was refused to the Tusti minority youth of Rwanda.
A practice of segregation led by the previous government quickly spread to the education system. Considered to be a school of outcasts by the previous government, it was referred to as "The School of the Tutsi".When in fact it served to provide an education for every Rwandan child with no discrimination.
Over 400 lives were lost at APACOPE during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. A memorial stands today at the school in their memory.
Following the Genocide, APACOPE rose from the ashes and inaugurated a nursery and primary section in 1997.
In 2014, the school name was changed from APACOPE College to Groupe Scolaire APACOPE.
Today, The school currently operates as a fully-fledged institution with the following sections:
The First Legal Representative and Founder of GS. APACOPE
The Founder Members of GS. APACOPE
